How hot was it?

Jul. 27—While largely unamused by a weeklong forecast of triple-digit temperatures, employees of the Ashley Furniture store in Medford found a way to smile through their suffering Monday afternoon.

Store employees Tricia Bradford and Jason Petsthe decided to bake some chocolate cookies — on the dash of a hot car.

Petsthe said it was "kind of a slow day at the store."

Adding insult to injury, power was out at the Ashley Furniture warehouse, along with other portions of Medford, and computers were down inside the store.

Petsthe brought cookie dough to work, with the shenanigans in mind. Bradford immediately got on board.

"It took four hours total," Bradford said with a laugh.

"We just had the Nestle premade stuff, and we put them in in the morning, about 11 a.m., and we kept checking on them. By 3 p.m. it was 106 or 107 degrees, so probably 167 on the dash of the car."

Bradford said the cookies were a hit — for entertainment and snacking purposes.

"It's outrageous that it's THAT hot in Medford that you can bake cookies in a hot car. It's like those Easy-Bake ovens we had when we were kids. We were all laughing when we realized it was working and they were actually crispy on the outside," Bradford said.

"We were joking we should start putting our breakfast burritos out there in the morning or maybe bring a cast iron skillet and cook up some fried eggs."

While it's not exactly comfort food weather, store employees had zero concern over which type of "appliance" was used to bake their tasty sweets.

"Everyone loved them," said Bradford. "Warm cookies — fresh out of the car!"

Bananas are one of my favorite fruits, and I go through about a bunch a week all by myself! I'm constantly whipping up 1-ingredient banana ice cream or eating one as a snack, slathered with a little nut butter. Occasionally though, my bananas get a little brown. Most people see brown bananas ...

McDonald’s recently re-released a pair of limited-time-only special items: the Jalapeño McChicken and Jalapeño Double. Both sandwiches feature their typical bases (a fried chicken patty and hamburger patties, respectively) and are each topped with American cheese, pickled jalapeños, fried jalapeño chips, and ranch sauce. The chain originally introduced the Jalapeño Double in 2014, which had all the same toppings, except back then, instead of American cheese, it had white cheddar on it. Eventuall

Nothing fails to generate excitement around a fast-food brand that most have known since childhood like a new and slightly out-there menu item. While most such dishes are temporary promotions that will eventually get relegated to "crazy fast food dishes from around the world" lists, they occasionally inspire trends that make its way over here — PepsiCo 's Frito-Lay recently cautiously released a new Doritos flavor called "Tangy Tamarind" after seeing the fruit's popularity as a snack flavor in India and Latin America.
